The Olympic Stadium known as Estadio Olímpico de Monjuic was built in 1929 for the International Exposition, and in 1992, it was totally refurbished for the ’92 Olympic Games held in Barcelona. It has become one of the most emblematic corners of the city. The Olympic Sports Museum known as Museo Olímpico del Deporte is located next to the Stadium. It houses some of the most impressive memories of the 1992 Olympic Games held in Barcelona.
The name of the Stadium refers to Lluís Companys, President of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Catalonian Government) during the Spanish Civil War.
The Olympic Stadium in Monjuic also hosts the largest concerts in Barcelona, with some of the most famous singers and groups of the world having taken over the stage, including Shakira, The Rolling Stones, Metalica and Bruce Springsteen, to mention but a few.
